
Sadiya Ansari is a bestselling author and award-winning journalist based in London.
She has reported from four continents, and her writing has appeared in the Guardian, the New York Times, the Irish Times, and the Globe and Mail, among other publications. Sadiya’s debut, In Exile: Rupture, Reunion and My Grandmother’s Secret Life, is part-memoir, part-investigation into a period of two decades during which her paternal grandmother left her seven children, disappearing into rural Pakistan. In Exile was an instant national bestseller.
Sadiya’s work has been supported by the Pulitzer Center, International Center for Journalists, Canada Council for the Arts and the Berlin Senate Department for Culture. She was a 2021 R. James Travers Foreign Corresponding Fellow, 2023-4 Asper Visiting Professor of Journalism at the University of British Columbia, and 2026 Journalist in Residence at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.
